GENBOX (tm)
Shareware Version 2.0
RELEASE NOTES
VERSION 2.0 - March 1, 1994
1) Landscape printing on IBM and EPSON-compatible printers is now
supported. Charts can be printed in continuous horizontal "strips",
for easier assembly. Supports both 8-pin and 24-pin printing.
2) Font support has been added, for landscape printing. Several fonts of
various styles and sizes are supplied. FEDIT, a font editor utility, is
included (registered version), so that fonts can be modified/created.
3) Direct setting of character pitch, line spacing, and paper size is now
supported.
4) Page widths of up to 255 characters now work correctly.
5) German month abbreviations are now recognized.
6) Highlighted box borders are now handled independently of "normal" box
borders. Other minor corrections and improvements also made.
VERSION 1.3 - April 16, 1993
1) Memory handling has been greatly improved. Depending on the amount of
conventional memory available (the first 640k of RAM), the upper
limit on the size of GEDCOM files that can be processed successfully is
6000 - 9000 people or more.
2) GEDCOM files with large RINs (up to 2147483647) can now be loaded.
3) Two-part RINs (such as @I1212:45678@ or @F3918-2@) are now supported.
Each part may have up to 5 digits, with maximums of 19999:99999. The
part separator can be any non-digit, non-space character(s).
4) All RINs in files with large RINs or two-part RINs are renumbered,
using consecutive numbers starting at 0.
5) Alternate line-drawing character codes may now be directly specified,
for users with printers that do not support the PC line-drawing
character codes. In previous versions, the alternate character codes
were fixed.
6) If the alternate characters are selected, you may now specify whether
they should be applied when the chart is MADE, or when the chart is
PRINTED. If applied when the chart is MADE, then the Viewer will show
the alternate characters. Otherwise, the alternate characters will
appear only on the printed chart: the viewer will show the normal
line-drawing characters. There are advantages/disadvantages to both
choices. One advantage of applying the alternate codes when the chart
is MADE is that if the GEDCOM DATA contains some of the same codes
(used for foreign characters, for example), they will not be changed.
7) The "blank line" and missing "0 TRLR" problems of GEDCOM files created
with older TMG beta versions are now accomodated. (The previous version
fixed the RIN-header problem of TMG-produced GEDCOM files only.)
8) Accidently pressing the left/right arrow keys in the menus now has no
effect.
VERSION 1.2 - April 9, 1993
1) Some of the advanced features previously available only in the
registered version are now included: all settings on the BOX OPTIONS
window have been enabled.
2) Problems using GEDCOM files produced by TMG (The Master Genealogist)
have been corrected.
3) 8-bit characters are now handled properly, for GEDCOM files containing
international characters.
4) The line wrap routine has been improved: wrapping can now occur
after any punctuation, not just on spaces.
5) Assorted minor corrections in error handling were made.
VERSION 1.1 - March 30, 1993
1) Fixed problem with printing on some printers: A message "Printer is
BUSY/OFFLINE" would sometimes appear, even when the printer was ready.
VERSION 1.0 - March 20, 1993
Initial release of GENBOX.
